Natas Kaupas’ Animated Board Graphics

Posted by ryan as Animation, Art, Skateboarding

I love this idea. It seems kind of obvious that this would be a cool, leave it to Natas Kaupas to be the first to realize it and make it happen. Another awesome contribution by Natas.

Airwalk Has Been Brought Back

Posted by ryan as History, Skateboarding, Style

Nostalgia is a funny thing. I’ve had some conversations with friends about how cool it would be to get our hands on some of the classic Airwalk shoes from when we started skateboarding in the late 1980′s. Well it seems 25 years for Airwalk has gone by and now they are celebrating their 25th Anniversary with the re release of some classic Airwalk shoe designs. All of you ol’ time skaters rejoice, the high top 80′s steeze is available for $85 bucks. For those that remember the shoes used to cost $65 back in the day. Even with the price increase I’m gonna need to cop multiple pairs of these ol’ school classics.

Check out Airwalks mens shoe line.

VCJ back with Powell Peralta

Posted by ryan as Art, Skateboarding

Vernon Courtlandt Johnson has returned to Powell Peralta to do some new graphics. That is some really great news. VCJ was the artist who did the iconic Ripper graphics. Powell has had it’s up and downs over the years. No longer the big dominating skate brand of the 80′s Powell felt almost irrelevant in the contemporary skate scene whose riders are so young they never knew of the Bones Brigade. While this may be the case there was always us riders old enough to remember the glory days of the Bones Brigade who spoke highly of that time to the new guns and how it inspired us to skate. Recently change has been afoot and Powell has been reconnecting elements of its rich roots. It has been a great thing to see happening. Now no longer just Powell, Stacey Peralta has rejoined George Powell making Powell Peralta complete once again. To up the ante even more we have Mike Vallely rejoining the team as well. Only the Bones Brigade themselves rejoining the team could there be a more iconic reconnection. Makes me think about the early days of skating. When skateboarding capture my complete attention. I can’t help but smile, and remember Mike V. running through a grave yard inspiring me to skate.

Check out more of his graphics at Disposable’s VCJ gallery.  Disposable The Book is awesome and I highly recommend it. A must have for skateboarders and artist lovers alike.
