Apple Tablet A Long Time Apple Idea

Posted by ryan as Apple, Design, Designer, Technology

Wired’s Gadget section has a report on Apple’s never to market tablet from 1983 as developed by Frog Design. The rumors about the tablet have been around forever, I just never had a clue that the idea was on the table for as long as it has been for Apple. After seeing this it really makes predicting Apple’s release of the so called iSlate / iTablet / iPad even easier. I can’t wait to see what they unveil this coming Wednesday, January 27th.

New Smart Phones Compared

Posted by ryan as Apple, Technology

I just came across this graphical chart from www.billsource.com on how the new smart phones compare. I have already bought an iPhone Gs and its suppose to arrive by the 19th. No lines, no wait. Its a nice set up. Smart on Apple’s part to make it easy and help get them out in a quicker distribution method. Even a few at a time. I’m sure I’m not alone in having already bought a new phone.

Microsoft Struggling To Find Clear Message?

Posted by ryan as Advertising, Apple, Humor, Interweb, News, Technology

Valleywag reports that Microsoft will no longer run the 300 million Seinfield ad campaign. Whoa, thats some wasted cheese. Think about the charitable contributions they could have used that money on and have a good PR company just do their job and get the word out while achieving an amirable goal. I know, idealistic. I do understand that advertising is a part of business and a company of Microsoft’s magnatude can certainly spend the money on some good PR. Valleywag lays on Microsoft kinda harshly but the truth always stings a bit.

Redmond had always planned to drop Seinfeld. The awkward reality: The ads only reminded us how out of touch with consumers Microsoft is — and that Bill Gates’s company has millions of dollars to waste on hiring a has-been funnyman to keep him company.

What’s laughable is the new approach that MacRumos reports Microsoft is planning on taking. Using the Apple commercial PC guy and have him whine about becoming a stereotype and leave out all that junk about software features and that other messy stuff that computer software companies blab on about.

The NYTimes confirms this plan but also reveals that Microsoft will be taking direct aim at Apple’s “Get a Mac” ads in which John Hodgman who plays “PC” opposite Justin Long as “Mac”.

“One new Microsoft commercial even begins with a company engineer who resembles John Hodgman, the comedian portraying the loser PC character in the Apple campaign. “Hello, I’m a PC,” the engineer says, echoing Mr. Hodgman’s recurring line, “and I’ve been made into a stereotype.”

The new ads will have some appearances from Bill Gates but will also show other celebrities as everyday PC users in “fast-paced, upbeat vignettes” about their use of Microsoft Windows based PCs.

Really Microsoft, really? Those celebrities won’t come off as another well paid off celebrity. (JS:)

iPhone Changes Industry

Posted by ryan as Apple, News, Technology

Wired’s article “The Untold Story: How the iPhone Blew Up the Wireless Industry” is a great story of how the iPhone came to be and its affects on the wireless market. I tried to explain to my family and co-workers of the changes a product like the iPhone would offer the wireless market. My information came from the rumor mill that Apple fans sites offered for years about Apple’s new product offering. The changes were inevitable of course. The US wireless market has been on lock down for far too long.

“We’re thinking about the market differently,” Roth says. In other words, the very development that wireless carriers feared for so long may prove to be exactly what they need. It took Steve Jobs to show them that.

Think Secret Shutting down!

Posted by ryan as Apple, Bummer, Interweb, News

Apple, Think Secret settle lawsuit

PRESS RELEASE: Apple and Think Secret have settled their lawsuit, reaching an agreement that results in a positive solution for both sides. As part of the confidential settlement, no sources were revealed and Think Secret will no longer be published. Nick Ciarelli, Think Secret’s publisher, said “I’m pleased to have reached this amicable settlement, and will now be able to move forward with my college studies and broader journalistic pursuits.”

Comments are closed on the story, but I think it sucks. Its positive in the fact that Apple may not be trying to ruin the lives of some of its most dedicated fans, but negative in regards to having a great resource to read all things Mac. I guess their information was just too good for Apple let continue. The loss is really for us, the viewers and Apple fans that tune into Think Secret daily for our Apple related news. Another sad site lost.
